As the absolute "big brother" of the color TV industry, Samsung cannot let OLED take the lead. Therefore, Samsung mainly promotes quantum dot TV to compete with OLED, and jointly promotes the development of quantum dot TV with TCL, Hisense, Xiaomi and other giants. Although the overall sales volume of quantum dot TV is ahead of OLED display module, it seems that everyone is not optimistic about the possibility of quantum dot becoming the next generation of display technology.
In order to compete with OLED, Samsung launched micro LED display technology products, and announced the official mass production of micro LED panels at the end of last year, which also indicates that Samsung will vigorously promote micro LED TV products. This is another exciting news after Samsung's first demonstration of the wall TV with modular micro LED Panel on ces2018. So what are the advantages of microled products to become the next generation of display technology?
Micro led refers to the high-density integrated LED array. The distance between the LED pixel points in the array is 10 microns, and each LED pixel can self illuminate. It is to miniaturize the traditional inorganic LED array, and each LED pixel with the size of 10 microns can be independently located and lit. In order to achieve the accurate control of the brightness of each chip, and then realize the image display.
The reason why microled is favored by many people in the industry is that it is the same self luminous display technology as OLED. Microled can achieve high brightness, super-high resolution and high resolution, low power consumption, high contrast, high color saturation, fast reaction speed, thin thickness and other characteristics.
In theory, microled can provide the perfect black (all micro LEDs can be turned off separately), the best brightness of its kind, the incredible HDR color gamut, and it will not age, with longer endurance performance than OLED display module.
The power consumption of microled can be as low as 10% of LCD and 50% of OLED. Compared with OLED, it can achieve the same brightness of display, and only needs about 10% of the coating area of the latter. More importantly, it will not be affected by water vapor, oxygen or high temperature, so it has obvious advantages in stability, service life, working temperature, etc.
At present, including apple, Samsung, Hon Hai, LG display, oculus, and other manufacturers are busy with layout. Apple has been working in the field of micro LED display technology, and has applied for a large number of related patents.
Of course, micro LEDs are not without disadvantages. One of the major problems of micro LEDs is the problem of full color and the uniformity of light-emitting wavelength. Single color micro LED array can be achieved by flip structure packaging and driving IC lamination, but RGB array needs to be re pasted with red, blue and green grains in several times, and hundreds of thousands of LED grains need to be embedded.
