Which is better: OLED vs LCD

As the new generation display, OLED display has more advantage than lcd display, we could see oled screen is used in smart watch, cell phone, TV display, and the other industrial display application. Oled screen is the first choice for many high-technology company when they choose the screen. Such as Apple change their Iphone screen from tft screen to OLED, and the LG OLED TV is popular in TV market. Samsung and LG are leading the OLED technology, but now, more China companies have go into the OLED display market, such as BOE, Tianma in China are the manufacturers that make oled display module.
What does OLED display means?
An organic light-emitting diode (OLED or Organic LED), also known as an organic EL (organic electroluminescent) diode, is a light-emitting diode (LED) in which the emissive electroluminescent layer is a film of organic compound that emits light in response to an electric current.
OLED vs LCD in thickness
Active-matrix OLEDs An OLED display works without a backlight; thus, oled display is in true black levels and can be thinner and lighter than a liquid crystal display (LCD). the thickness of OLED only have 1/3 of lcd screen module. so the OLED screen can make your electronic devices as thinner as possible. such as the thinnest OLED TV from LG LG W7 OLED TV, its thickness only has 2.57mm .
OLED vs LCD in contrast:
In low ambient light conditions (such as a dark room), an OLED screen can achieve a higher contrast ratio than an LCD, the oled contrast can reach 10000:1, while a tft lcd display, its display contrast only around 800:1.
All transmissive LCD display technologies are challenged in bright sunlight, because the light reflects off the display. To mitigate the reflection, some LCDs offer a transflective mode, which is a combination of a reflective and a transmissive display, to lessen the problem but compromise on color and contrast performance in the process.

LCD vs Oled in power consumption:

OLED display panel vs LCD in lifetime:
OLEDs are emissive, similar to plasma displays and cathode ray tubes. They degrade over time. LCDs are transmissive displays that operate by filtering a backlight. LCDs typically last as long as their backlights, which also degrade over time or can fail catastrophically. Early in the development of OLED displays, the lifetime (defined as the time it takes for the display to reach 50% of the original luminance) was lower than typical LCD lifetimes. However, with tremendous progress in materials development, OLED displays have lifetimes comparable to or better than LCDs. Many OLED displays currently on the market have lifetimes exceeding 50,000 hr. In addition, lifetimes for OLED materials being developed by Cambridge Display Technology, Universal Display and others have lifetimes 2-3 times greater than typical LCDs. Some are in products today and more are expected to reach the market within coming two years.

And that was with just two companies, LG and Sony, selling OLED TVs in the US. In2020 they'll be joined by Vizio's new OLED TV. ... Meanwhile other brands, including Philips, Konka and Skyworth, are also bringing OLED TVs to the US this year, and they could be "good enough" too.
